NIRSpect – NIR Spectral and Machine Vision Analysis

NIRSpect

Stage of adaption :

Post Harvest Stage

TECHNOLOGY BRIEF

We use the principle of near infrared spectroscopy combined with machine vision analytics to determine parameters like taste, nutrition, shelf life, grade and adulteration inside fruits, vegetables, grains, cereals, pulses and milk. Our solutions are cost effective methods of detecting these parameters leading to enhanced procurement, quality based payouts, optimised logistics, reduced food wastage, fair pricing and results in removal of capital and labour intensive lab and sorting techniques used by businesses traditionally.
The solution is very simple to use and with the addition of geo-tagging and actionable insights, we can enable new opportunities for farmers by broadcasting quality, availability and pricing to businesses. This results in a comprehensive cycle of procurement for businesses and higher product value, and companies do not have to sort or analyse the produce, since it is being scanned at the point of procurement.

BENEFITS

Using our commodity certification program, APMCs, FPOs and local procurement centres can tag the produce in accordance with shelf life, taste or other parameters which determine its ‘premium-ness’ thereby guaranteeing to the end user that the produce they’re buying is of the best quality. Now businesses can remove their extensive dependence on labs or manual labour for sorting the produce or determining its quality and use our service which provides deeper insights.

TECHNOLOGY READINESS

MVP stage
We are working with companies like BigBasket, Mahindra Agri and ITC for deployment of our products at their warehouses or procurement locations thereby guaranteeing customer satisfaction and retention.

TARGET CUSTOMERS

We are initially targeting businesses who can use the product to validate the technology and reliability so that RAAV Quality Assurance Program gains brand value. Subsequent to this, our plans involve expanding into new client areas like APMCs, FPOs and local procurement centres to aid the entire procurement processes.

SCALABILITY

The product being easy to use, cost effective, portable, battery operated, temperature and humidity resistant, can be deployed at multiple points in the supply chain to ensure transparency and assure quality to the buyers. This service will be invaluable to businesses which are directly consumer facing since their quality maintenance is measured by customer satisfaction and retention. From the technology perspective, it’s an ever-evolving industry with new innovations around the corner always, so our business model will evolve from becoming quality testing enablers to becoming a part of the ‘guaranteed’ quality supply chain.

LIMITATIONS

• Inventory Management
• Resistance from trade markets
• Production Setup (>1000 units)

TECHNOLOGY COST

1.5 lakh per annum (includes warranty, maintenance, dashboard, platform, calibrations for all commodities).

SOCIAL IMPACT

• Better income and productivity for farmers (needs support from government bodies and businesses)
• Reduced food wastage due to improper shelf life measurements (procure only those commodities which have the shelf life to last the supply chain logistics)
• Removal of hazardous chemical techniques used for quality determination (Kjeldahl method for determining protein in wheat)
